Privacy policy

Who we are

CommonWatch is a service of Fizmio LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the commonwatch.app website and CommonWatch's text messages. Reports sent to a community are also covered by that community's privacy notice, linked from its report form.

When you contact us

The “Get in touch” form asks for your name, email, organization and role, and optionally your phone, community size and a message. We use them only to reply to you. They are emailed to our team and kept, with our notes on the conversation, until you ask us to delete them.

When you sign in

If you ask for a sign-in link, we use your email address only to send links for the communities you manage. Each link works once and expires.

Text messages

• If you agree to text updates on a community's report form, we use your mobile number only to text you when the community's team accepts your report and when it's resolved. The texts give the community, the report number, its category and location, never what you wrote or who handled it.
• We keep a record of when you agreed, and a log of the texts we sent (which report, when, and a scrambled version of the number) to limit how many texts one number can get. The number, the consent record and the log are deleted with the report's other contact details, on the schedule in the community's privacy notice; the log is also deleted after 30 days.
• Reply STOP to stop receiving texts at any time, or HELP for help. If you reply STOP, we keep a record that the number opted out (a scrambled version, not the number itself) so no community texts it again, until you reply START.
• Nobody reads other replies to our number. We answer them automatically, at most once a day, with a note to contact the community instead.
• Mobile numbers and text-message consent are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Spam protection

Forms are checked by Cloudflare Turnstile, which looks at technical details of your browser to tell people from bots. We also keep a scrambled version of your internet address to limit repeated submissions. It can't be turned back into your address.

Services that help run CommonWatch

• Cloudflare hosts the website and app, stores data, and provides the spam check.
• Resend delivers our emails, such as sign-in links and replies to your messages.
• Twilio delivers our text messages, so it receives the mobile number and each text.

They handle information only to provide these services to us.

Cookies

We don't use tracking cookies. If you pick light or dark mode, that choice is saved only in your browser.

You can ask us what we hold about you, or to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@commonwatch.app.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
